Lent 2016

Season of Lent

During the season of Lent, the Church asks the faithful to surrender themselves to prayer, penance and almsgiving. Catholics recognize these practices as a link to their baptismal promises. Lent is a time for true conversion of heart and mind for followers of Christ.

In keeping with the spirit and meaning of the Lenten fast, Catholics are encouraged to observe the Good Friday fast through Holy Saturday and until the celebration of the Easter vigil. It is also encouraged for Catholics to visit the Sacrament of Reconciliation

From the evening of Holy Thursday to the evening of Easter Sunday marks the Easter Triduum. Though chronologically three days, they are liturgically one day unfolding for us the unity of Christ’s Paschal Mystery. The single celebration of the Triduum marks the end of the Lenten season, and leads to the Mass of the Resurrection of the Lord at the Easter Vigil.
